The Louisiana State University of Alexandria women's soccer team has their sights set on a fourth-straight RRAC Championship Final appearance.
Â
First, they'll have to go through rival LSU Shreveport, after having already taken down Texas A&M-Texarkana in the quarterfinal. A path that mirrors their 2024 run and is strikingly similar to their path in 2023, the year the Generals won the RRAC Championship.
Â
Three seniors are hoping to cap their LSUA careers with a second RRAC Championship title and a trip to the NAIA tournament.
Audrian Cruz,
Jacqui Guillermo, and
Alexia Bermejo Jo are in their fourth and final season with the Generals and have helped guide the program to 50 wins over the last four seasons, three consecutive RRAC Championship Final appearances, and one NAIA National Championship appearance.
Â
"For us, we've been here every year," Bermejo added. "We know what it feels like. We try to help them [new players] understand that this is who LSUA is. When we got here, the seniors helped us and taught us things, so that's how we've tried to do things as well. Because we felt so good with it [the program] as freshmen, that's we wanted to bring to the new players."
Â
The 2025 campaign didn't start the way they'd hoped with the Generals going 0-3-0 in their first three games against William Carey, the University of Mobile, and Tennessee Southern. LSUA then dropped two more games in their non-conference slate before routing Wiley before RRAC play started, entering the conference slate with a record of 2-5-0.
Â
But, for the three four-year seniors, the season was never in doubt.
Â
"I think it's the mentality we have," Guillermo said. "Coming in, we didn't have a great non-conference performance and I think there was a bit of 'no way we can win this' but we were there to remind them, we're LSUA. It's our mentality that helps us get there."
Â
The Generals' non-conference slate was stacked with teams ranked in the NAIA Top 25.
Â
"Obviously, it's tough to have those losses," Guillermo added. "But I think it really helps us know what we need to strengthen going into conference."
Â
A pair of clean sheet wins over Southwest (N.M.) and Texas College helped set the tone for the conference schedule. The Generals won seven of their first eight RRAC matches, including a five-match win streak from October 4 to October 18.
Â
"I think it's very much in our style to come in as the underdog," Cruz said. "At this point, I prefer it."
Â
In the last four seasons, LSUA has entered the tournament as the number four seed three times and the third seed once. In the four tournaments, the Generals have been tasked with defeating teams who handed them a loss in the regular season in seven matches. In the 2023 RRAC Championship title run, the Generals recorded wins over Louisiana Christian, Xavier (La.), and LSU Shreveport – after all three claimed a regular season victory over LSUA.
Â
"We called that the Revenge Tour," Guillermo said. "No one was safe that season."
Â
The 2025 Championship route could take LSUA through a similar path. Two of the three remaining teams beat LSUA in the regular season. The other, Xavier (La.) ended in an unsatisfying draw.
Â
It was also Xavier (La.) who claimed the 2024 RRAC Championship title, defeating the Generals in a penalty shootout after110 minutes of play.
Â
"Losing in penalties, it's one of the worst ways to lose," Guillermo added. "The game sent us through all the emotions. It's something we don't want to experience this year."
Â
"It's kinda lining up again," Cruz said. "Now we know what to deal with and how to deal with it. We've done the homework and now we just need to go out there and do it."
Â
The Generals take on top-seeded LSU Shreveport at 11:00 AM in Texarkana, Texas on Monday, November 10 in the RRAC Championship semifinal.
