Women's Soccer Falls in RRAC Semifinal, 2-0

TEXARKANA, TX – The Louisiana State University of Alexandria women's soccer team's RRAC Championship run ended with a 2-0 semifinal loss to LSU Shreveport.

"Real tough pill to swallow," LSUA Head Coach Mark Hammond said. "To be honest, I think that if we play this game 10 times, we win nine of them. I think we were fantastic; I can't fault any player today. Obviously, you want to win, but winning has no loyalty to anyone; you can do all the right things and you can play to the best that you can and sometimes it's just not your day."

The Generals (11-8-1) battered the Pilots (12-6-0) in the second half, sending 14 shots towards goal after nine shots in the first half. They put 16 of their 23 chances on goal. The Pilots recorded just 12 shots with eight on frame.

Yanira Herraez made fives saves in the contest. Elena Lopez recorded eight saves for the Pilots.

The opening stanza was scoreless through 43 minutes of action. Both sides recorded chances, including LSUA shots on goal from Sacha Backus, Fenja Leibner, and Sara Escribano Garcia-Miguel.

In the 44th minute, the Pilots were awarded a penalty and Jade Derks converted from the spot for a 1-0 heading into halftime. Derks added a brace in the 53rd minute to put LSUS ahead, 2-0.

With the Pilots' stuck in defensively, the Generals bombarded the attacking third.

Escribano, Backus, and Alexia Bermejo Jo all generated chances in the 10 minutes of the second. Audrian Cruz, Jacqui Guillermo, and Nelly Dallmann took chances through the middle of the period.

In the final 10 minutes, Escribano, Backus, and Bermejo all put shots on target but were stymied by the Pilots' defense.
