Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Generals Tame Mustangs, 86-55

ALEXANDRIA, LA – The Louisiana State University of Alexandria men's basketball team cruised to an 86-55 win over the University of the Southwest (N.M.).

"Good response from our guys," LSUA Head Coach Dimario Jackson said. "We challenged them before the game, coming off Tuesday night's win. Sometimes you get relaxed and give your opponent confidence. We've been on the other side when it comes to that. Good job to our guys and our staff for being locked in and getting the win."

Jordan Decuir led the Generals (11-6, 8-3 RRAC) with 25 points. He finished 10-for-15 from the field and 4-for-5 from beyond the arc. Courtney McCarthy (11) and EJ McQuillan (10) also recorded double digit efforts. TJ James finished with a team-high 13 rebounds. LSUA recorded 26 points in the paint, 19 second chance points, 14 points off of turnovers, and the bench recorded 38 points.

Grant Hickey led the Mustangs (4-13, 1-10 RRAC) with 14 points. Ejay Scroggins recorded 11 points. The Mustangs shot just 32.1 percent from the floor and 24.1 percent from beyond the arc. They knocked down 14 of their 16 free throw attempts.

The Mustangs and Generals traded points for the game's opening three minutes before the Generals opened up a run. After a three from Hickey made it 6-5 USW, a 9-2 run for LSUA made 16-8 in favor of the Purple and Gold.

LSUA reached its first 10-point lead halfway through the period, 22-12. The Mustangs cut it to just five, 27-22, but the Generals scored the next five baskets for a 37-22 advantage and never looked back. LSUA went into halftime leading 47-25.

The second stanza was much of the same for the Generals. They continued to inch their lead forward by shooting 50-percnet from the field in the second, culminating in a 31-point victory. Overall, the Generals finished 52.4-percnet from the floor and 50-percent from long range.

LSUA is back at home on Saturday, January 17, to face the University of North Texas at Dallas. Tip-off is scheduled for 3:00 PM at The Fort.
