Women's Soccer Grabs 2-1 Win Over Oklahoma City

ALEXANDRIA, LA – The Louisiana State University of Alexandria women's soccer team took down Oklahoma City University, 2-1, at home.

The Generals (3-3-1) scored a pair of second half goals. Both LSUA and the Stars (4-2-0) recorded a double-digit shot total in the second half.

OCU had the game's first chance in the seventh minute. A shot from Ali Daugherty was turned away by Meike van Straten. The Generals' keeper made six saves in total.

Ava Little was the first to test Gemma Harvey, the Stars' goalkeeper. Little had a shot denied by Harvey in the 22nd minute.

In the 31st minute, Sara Escribano Garcia-Miguel broke through the Stars' back line and was in alone on Harvey. She fired a shot low and Harvey made a kick save to keep the game scoreless.

Escribano, Abril Cobos, and Ariana Lowenstein all had shots turned away by Harvey in the half's final eight minutes.

Just three minutes into the second half, Escribano found the back of the net. Cobos slipped a pass through the defense to Escribano who finished her chance with a low shot for a 1-0 lead.

The Stars found the equalizer two minutes later. Karima Marhabi dropped a pass back to Reese Roberts who unleashed a deep shot and slipped it under the crossbar.

Oklahoma City managed four more shots on goal in the second half with chances from Kayleigh Haygood, Austin Clift, and a pair from Roberts all being stymied by van Straten.

A penalty in the 87th minute gave the Generals a chance to go back ahead and Cobos buried it for her second goal of the season and a 2-1 lead.

The Generals had three more shots in the final four minutes as they held the lead for the victory.

LSUA is back at home for a pair of matches next week on Thursday, September 17, at 11:00 AM to face Mid-America Christian and on Saturday, September 19, at noon against Texas Wesleyan.
