Baseball Explodes for 37 Runs in Doubleheader Sweep of XULA

ALEXANDRIA, LA – The Louisiana State University of Alexandria baseball team scored 37 runs over a pair of wins against Xavier University of Louisiana in Red River Athletic Conference play, 17-1 and 20-1.
 

 
GAME ONE | LSUA 17, XULA 1
LSUA (16-8, 5-3 RRAC) collected 15 hits en route to the victory in game one.
 
Trevor Dooley, Brett Batteford, and Austin Morris each recorded a pair of hits. Dooley drove in five, while Landon Langley and Blake Moss each drove in a pair.
 
Michael Sutton (4-2) notched his fourth win of the season. He allowed just one earned run, on three hits, over five innings of work. He struck out six and did not issue a walk. Brenyn Ebarb and Austin Lorenz both tossed a shutout inning each.
 
The Gold Rush (4-11, 2-6 RRAC) opened the scoring in the first. Lawrence Steed led off with a triple and scored on a ground out by Cohen Boyd.
 
The Generals responded immediately, pushing across three in the bottom half of the inning. A sacrifice fly from Dooley drove in Cade LaBruyere, tying the game at 1-1. An infield single from Cameren Parks plated Dalton Wilson for a 2-1 lead. Fischer Einkauf scored on a wild pitch later in the inning.
 
An RBI triple from Moss in the second drove around Joshua Tinnerello in the second as part of a five-run inning.  
 
In the third, Dooley drove two more runs in. He drove a 1-2 pitch to center, plating LaBruyere and Lane Patin as the opening salvo in a six-run inning.
 
Austin Morris drove in Shae Thibodeaux in the fourth, giving LSUA a 15-1 lead. They added two more in the sixth on a sacrifice fly from Geoffrey Fontenot and a bases loaded walk to Jamari Valery.
 
GAME TWO | LSUA 20, XULA 1
The Generals' offense remained hot in game two, collecting 10 hits and drawing nine walks.
 
Seth Leger (3-1) earned the win. He tossed five innings and allowed just one run on four hits. Leger notched eight strikeouts and walked two. Jacob Brignac and Charlie Guidry threw a scoreless inning each.
 
Moss drove in a trio of runs, while LaBruyere, Dooley, Lane Kratzer, Batteford, and Langley each drove in a pair.
 
LSUA scored five runs in the first and sixth innings. Their biggest inning came in the third, scoring six. The Generals were held off the scoreboard in only the fourth inning.
 
After Einkauf drove in the game's first run on a ground out and a bases-loaded hit by pitch to Zack Berry, Langley drove a two-run single to left in the bottom of the first.
 
XULA scored their only run in the third on an RBI single from Jayden Smith.
 
Dooley and Moss both clubbed two-run doubles. Batteford hit a two-run triple in the sixth.
 
UP NEXT
The Generals close their three-game series against Xavier (La.) on March 7 at noon.
