Women's Basketball Falls in Close Contest at UNTD, 74-71

CEDAR HILL, TX – The Louisiana State University of Alexandria women's basketball team dropped its penultimate game of the regular season to the University of North Texas-Dallas, 74-71.

"We got out to a slow start in the second quarter and could never really get anything going," LSUA Head Coach Billy Perkins said. "The ball just didn't bounce our way in the end."

Sydney Person led the Generals (13-13, 12-9 RRAC) with 23 points. She finished with a field goal percent 50, knocking down 10 of her 20 attempts. She also knocked down a pair at the free throw line. Justice Young recorded another double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds; it's her sixth double-double of the campaign. LSUA scored 42 points in the paint, 10 points off turnovers, and 17 second chance points.

The Trailblazers (10-13, 9-12 RRAC) had four players finish in double digits. Shandrea Yeldell recorded a team-high 16, while Jade Myles recorded 15. Channing Beauvais (13) and Kaylyn Minor also finished in double digits.

LSUA held a slim advantage through a majority of the first quarter, answering baskets from UNTD with their own. Young closed the opening period with a layup, giving the Generals a 21-18 lead.

The second quarter was not friendly to the Generals. They shot just 18.8-percent from the field and were outscored 19-10 to head into halftime trailing by six, 37-31.

UNTD expanded their lead to 10, 45-35, with 6:47 left in the third. The Generals managed to pull the gap to single digits and a three from Reese Stephens on the final possession of the quarter made it a five-point game, 53-48, heading into the fourth.

A 6-0 run for the Generals brought them within one, 59-58, with 6:03 to play. Two minutes later, six consecutive points from Addison Walker and Person gave the Generals a 64-63 lead.

Beauvais responded immediately with a layup of her own, giving the Trailblazers a 65-64 advantage. With just under a minute to play, UNTD had staked out a five-point lead. After three converted free throws, two for LSUA and one for UNTD, a layup from Kaitlyn Blake on a fastbreak put LSUA down by just two. A free throw from UNTD's Myles sealed the win for the Trailblazers.

The Generals' final regular season game comes on Saturday at the University of Southwest (N.M.). Tip-off is scheduled for 1:00 PM MT (2:00 PM CT).
