The Generals scored the first four points of the game on a layup from Pouncy and free throws from James. A 5-0 run for the Pilots quickly erased the lead but a three from McQuillan put LSUA back ahead in the first five minutes of the half.

Midway through the first half, a dunk and layup from Brittingham gave the Pilots a 17-16 lead. They expanded their lead to as many as 12, 37-25, with 2:57 left in the half.

A late jumper from McCraney cut the Generals' deficit to single digits, 40-31, heading into the locker room at halftime.

With 14:26 left in the second half, the Pilots pushed their lead to 13, 49-36, on a dunk from Wallace. Two minutes later, a three from Courtney McCarthy made it a nine-point game once more. After a layup from LSUS, McCarthy knocked down a free throw at the line before McQuillan drained a three to make it 53-46.

A tip-in from Decuir and three from McCarthy, with a bucket for LSUS in between, made it a four-point game with just under 11 minutes left in regulation.

McCarthy knocked down a shot from beyond the arc with 9:51 on the clock, cutting the deficit to three, 59-56.

The Pilots slowly extended their lead back to double digits, 77-66, with 3:11 left in regulation. The Generals forced the gap back to single digits, but LSUS held for the 89-80 victory.
