ALEXANDRIA, LA – The Louisiana State University of Alexandria baseball team split its doubleheader with John Melvin University, 4-0 and 7-3.
GAME ONE | JMU 4, LSUA 0
The Generals (2-1) were no-hit by the John Melvin's Peyton Ford (1-0) in the opening game of their doubleheader.
Ford recorded three strike outs in game one for the Millers.
John Melvin scored two runs in the second inning on an RBI double from Trevor Durr. The plated a pair more in the fifth on a double from Cabet Blanchard.
In the second inning
Judge Boudreaux was robbed of an extra base hit by JMU center fielder Jonah Callais. The Millers' center fielder ranged directly back to make a diving catch.
The Generals were robbed of a hit in the bottom of the fourth inning when Cade LaBruyere hit a deep fly ball to right field. Josh Guidroz made the running catch on the track to keep the Generals out of the hit column. Boudreaux was robbed again a batter later. Blanchard made a sprinting catch in the gap to keep the no-hitter intact.
Charlie Guidry (0-1) was charged with the loss. Guidry pitched three innings and faced 17 batters. He allowed three hits, two runs, and two earned.
GAME TWO | JMU 3, LSUA 7
The Generals bounced back to split the doubleheader in game two.
LSUA opened up the scoring with one run and three hits in the first inning. LaBruyere doubled to left field before Fisher Einkauf hit a looping line drive into shallow left.
Landon Langley then drove in the game's first run with a single through the right side.
In the fourth inning
Trevor Dooley singled up the middle to drive in Langley, after Langley reached on a double, for a 2-0 lead.
The Generals exploded for five runs in the sixth. Bases loaded walks to
Dalton Wilson and
Brett Batteford forced home a pair. LaBruyere roped his second double of the game, a bases-clearing knock down the right field line for a 7-0 lead.
The Millers plated three runs in the game's final frame. Tristan Rogers scored on a throwing error before Dylan Judice scored on a wild pitch. Connor Pleasant came around on a base hit as the game's final run.
Nash Tamplet forced Callais to ground into a fielder's choice to end the game.
Michael Sutton (1-0) earned his first win of the season. He tossed five scoreless innings and struck out four.
