HATTIESBURG, MS – The Louisiana State University of Alexandria women's soccer team lost its season opener to No. 5 William Carey University, 7-0.
"Tough night for a young squad," LSUA Head Coach
Mark Hammond said. "We wanted to face one of the best teams in the country early on to see the areas of our team that we need to work on. It's important for us to collect data and identify where we need to grow. Tonight definitely allowed us to do so."
The Generals (0-1-0) were held to just one shot, a 23
rd minute effort from
Ariana Lowenstein. The Crusaders (1-0-0) totaled 28 shots.
Meike van Straten made four saves in net for LSUA.
William Carey's Lauren Entremont and Kayla Martin each scored two goals.
The Crusaders scored four goals in the first half and three in the second. William Carey's final two goals came after an hour-long lightning delay which paused the game in the 63
rd minute of action.
"While the result is disappointing there are positives to take away," Hammond added. "Nine Generals made their debut and in patches we showed glimpses of who we can be. We take it on the chin and move into Saturday."
LSUA returns home for a non-conference match against the University of Mobile on Saturday, August 23, at 11:00 AM.
