ALEXANDRIA, LA – The No. 6 Louisiana State University of Alexandria softball team swept a Red River Athletic Conference doubleheader against Xavier (La.), 9-1 and 2-0.
"It's awesome when you can come out and get two wins, especially in the point in the season which you know you're competing for a championship," said LSUA Head Coach Trent Partridge said. "Kirsten came in in a situation that she's not been put in a whole lost hits season and she performed. Soileau does what she does, holds teams to nothing and gives us an opportunity to win ball games.
GAME ONE | LSUA 9, XULA 1 FIVE INNINGS
Three multi-run innings propelled the Generals (33-3, 16-0 RRAC) over the Gold Nuggets (12-16, 8-14 RRAC).
Haley Primrose (18-3) tossed a complete game one-hitter. She struck out five and walked just one.
Made Baker collected three runs batted in and finished 1-for-3 at the plate. Primrose drove in a pair.
Julia Kwakernaak scored three runs.
Leading 3-1 in the third, Primose launched a two-run homerun onto the batting cages behind the right field wall. Two batters later,
Kilee Moody drove in
Kaetlyn Dunbar with a double for a 6-1 lead.
LSUA scored another three runs to trigger the run rule for a 9-1 victory.
GAME TWO | LSUA 2, XULA 0
Alyssa Soileau (13-0) and
Kirsten Martinez (1) combined for the win and save in the backend.
Soileau tossed 5.1 innings and allowed just three hits. Martinez tossed 1.2 innings and struck out a pair for her first save of the season. The pair allowed only three hits.
Kwakernaak, Baker, and Primrose each tallied a pair of hits. The Generals had 10 hits as a team.
LSUA's runs came in the first and third innings. Kwakernaak drove in the first with a single to left field, scoring
Haley Fontenot. Primrose doubled home Baker in the third for a 2-0 lead.
Martinez struck out the final hitter of the game for the save.
