Norris Nets Double-Double as Generals Fall to A&M Texarkana

ALEXANDRIA, LA – The Louisiana State University of Alexandria women's basket dropped its Red River Athletic Conference game against Texas A&M-Texarkana, 76-74.

Kelly Norris recorded a double-double, scoring 16 points and hauling in 13 rebounds. Reese Stephens (15), Justice Young (15), Sydney Person (11), and Princis Goff (10) all scored 10 or more points. LSUA (2-7, 1-3 RRAC) shot 45.5-perent from the floor. They recorded 38 points in the paint and 19 points off turnovers.

The Generals shot over 65-percent in both the third and fourth quarters.

"I thought we did a good job competing," LSUA Head Coach Billy Perkins said. "But too many turnovers. We broke down on a couple defensive players, we just need to be better."

Breyionce George led the Eagles (5-5, 4-1 RRAC) with 20 points, while Eleionna Brown recorded 13. TAMUT shot 44.3-percent from the floor. They recorded 46 points in the paint, 27 points off turnovers, and the bench also recorded 27 points.

The Generals trailed by three after the first quarter, 18-15, but responded by taking the second quarter, 13-12, to head into the locker room down 30-28.

A layup from Young to start the third quarter levelled the game at 30-30. After trading baskets with the Eagles, a layup from Person gave LSUA a 34-32 lead. A three from Addison Walker with 5:30 left in the third gave the Generals a 37-34 lead but Maiya Petit tied the game 90 seconds later with a three of her own to make it 39-39.

LSUA then went up by five after a layup from Young and three from Person, 44-39. A three-point play from George tied the game with 58 seconds left in the quarter before a layup from Petit in the final possession gave Texarkana the lead heading into the final stanza.

The Eagles extended their lead to seven midways through the final period. The Generals chipped it down to one, 62-61, with 3:42 left in regulation. The Eagles again pushed their lead, staking out an eight-point advantage with 20 seconds left. The Generals mounted a last second comeback with a pair of layups from Norris and Young, as well as a three from Norris, but the Eagles held on for the victory.

LSUA is on the road next week to take on Jarvis Christian University and Texas College in their final games of the Calendar year.
