Lundstroem Nets Equalizer as Generals Draw to XULA, 2-2

METAIRIE, LA – Linnea Lundstroem scored in the final 20 seconds to equalize in the Louisiana State University of Alexandria women's soccer team's 2-2 draw to Xavier University (La.).

It is the second time this season Lundstroem has scored in the final 60 seconds and third time she's found the back of the net in the last five minutes. She has recorded eight goals in her freshman season for the Generals (10-7-1, 8-2-1 RRAC).

LSUA has secured the fourth seed in the Red River Athletic Conference heading into the conference tournament next week.

"Strange game today," LSUA Head Coach Mark Hammond said. "We were way off our standards in the first half and were very lucky to be a goal down at halftime. While we didn't have the control we wanted, we had more than enough chances to win the game and probably should be walking away with three points off the chances we created. Credit to the team for fighting until the last minute to get the equalizer. We'll take the point home and look forward to a home quarterfinal."

The Generals out shot the Gold Nuggets (9-2-4, 8-0-3 RRAC) 13-10 after finishing the first half even in shots at six each. Yanira Herraez made three saves in goal, including two in the second half to keep the Generals within a goal.

Xavier went up 2-0 with goals from Samira Roper and Keira Hardstaff in the 17th and 36th minutes, respectively.

Alexia Bermejo Jo cut the deficit in half in the 39th minute, converting a penalty for her 12th goal of the season.

Training 2-1 after halftime, the Generals generated seven shots in the back half. Sara Escribano Garcia-Miguel had the first three chances of the half, the third was turned away by Luisa Bell.

In the 83rd minute, Fenja Leibner hit the crossbar. Leibner was then denied by Bell in the 89th minute.

Escribano fired a shot on frame in the final 20 seconds and Bell made the save, the rebound caromed to Lundstroem who buried her chance for the equalizer.

LSUA will now host the opening round of the RRAC Tournament on Thursday, November 6.
