Gulf Shore Invitational Day Two Recap

GULF SHORES, AL- After splitting day one in the Gulf Shores Invitational, the Generals continued with another big day of softball facing Central Baptist College and Thomas University.
 
Game one for the Generals against the Mustangs of Central Baptist resulted in a 2-4 loss that came down to the wire in the last few innings of the game. The first four innings of the game was a battle of defenses as both the Generals and Mustangs were getting hits, but each team taking care of business to get three outs with no runs scored. 
 
However, things took a turn in the 5th inning for both the Mustangs and the Generals. Top of the 5th, the Mustangs able to capitalize on a throwing error to first brining in their first run of the game, and then another run brought in with a single by Mustangs' Smith down the left field line making it a 2-0 ball game. 
 
Generals were quick to respond back as a double to center field by Tia Holmes brought in Katherine Atkins and a clutch single by Amber Giddens brought Holmes in making it a 2-2 tied ball game. Going into the 6thinning the Mustangs were able to put up two more runs taking the win 4-2 as the Generals tried to answer back, but the odds were not in their favor. 
 
In game two of the day against Thomas, the Generals were able to take care of business early as Tia Holmes brought in the first run with a double as Layton and Howell were on base. Then with Atkins up to the plate, Howell was able to tag up and come home as Atkins sent one flying to center field, but Thomas' defense able to secure the catch. With the Generals leading 2-0 going into the second inning, Giddens and Layton were both able to score on errors by Thomas extended their lead 4-0.
 
The Generals were able to hold Thomas to only one run that was scored in the 5th inning and walked away with the 4-1 win for game two of the day. 
 
The Generals will wrap up their last day at the Gulf Shores Invitational with the final two games against Columbia College and Baker University.
